Student of the Month Recipient

On our 5000 Role Models "Holiday Summit" field trip today, December 17, 2024, Zachary Moore, a fifth grade student at Lorah Park Elementary School found $100 wedged between a seat cushion on the bus. As I was walking down the aisle counting the students, Zachary shared with me: "Mr. K, I found this and wanted to turn it in to you." I looked down, and in Zachary's hand was a FRESH CRISP ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL! kids on the bus were goading him; "It's Christmas Zachary keep it!!" "Give it to me!" "Keep it, it's not real anyways!" There was no mistake, it was a fresh Benjamin and it was quite real. Zachary DID NOT HESITATE to do the right thing. He stared temptation in the face and turned in the money. Independently, a few seats up on the other side of the bus, one of our adult chaperones had discovered that he was missing $100. Money and rightful owner were reunited with one another, and Zachary was the facilitator of this beautiful Christmas example of love and honesty. He was a shining example to not only his classmates but also the other students on the bus from another school who had shared the bus ride with us. I am very proud of Zachary and the integrity that he showed today. For fun Zachary enjoys playing football, and his favorite subject is reading. When I shared this account with his mother, her reply was; "That is so Zachary!!"
